I am a Specialist Psychiatrist in the Cape Town CBD.
After working in Family Practice in Cape Town I was privileged to train and work in Psychiatry in the UK for 10 years, and I returned to practice in Cape Town in 2004.
My experience is that the vast majority of people with mental health problems make a good or excellent recovery with the correct psychological and medical treatment.
In the last few years I have held appointments in the Department of Health, the University of Cape Town and Private practice.
My main interests and skills are in assessing and treating Anxiety, Depression and Bipolar Disorder, ADHD and complex, treatment resistant or medico-legal problems. Many people with these problems have alcohol and drug use problems which also need to be considered.
There is more information about these on the Areas of Interest page.
People with mental health issues face a difficulty with stigma and too little access to expert clinicians and on the other hand too much, often poor quality, internet based information about mental health issues.
I write and lecture about the clinical and neuroscience aspects of Mental Health and Psychiatric Disorders to Primary Care Practitioners and Psychiatrists.
My rooms are at 46 Roeland Square, a quiet office block in the CBD with reserved underground parking.
